Why Manchester City Pulled Out Of The Race For Alexis Sanchez Revealed?

In January, Chile international Alexis Sanchez was heavily linked with Premier League giants Manchester City, but ended up at Manchester United instead. The reason why the Citizens pulled out of the race for the playmaker has now reportedly been revealed.

Mourinho Hits Out At Pep's Man City

The 29-year-old, who was said to be high on Pep Guardiola's wish list last season, was part of a swap deal that saw his former club Arsenal sign former Borussia Dortmund playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan from United as he went the other way.

In a new Amazon documentary called All or Nothing, Citizens chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak explained why City ended up deciding against signing Sanchez, hinting that the player would have cost them too much money in the end.

"We identified him as a player that was a good fit for this club," Al Mubarak says in the documentary, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

"Pep was very keen to have him join (in 2017) but it didn't happen. Not for the wrong reasons. There are not any regrets.

"We looked at the situation again in January but the situation changed for us from how we looked at it in the summer and how we looked at it in the winter.

"And the reality is the economics simply didn't work any more."
