In recent weeks, there have been rumours that Los Blancos are gearing up to sign the 22-year-old at the end of next season, but now it seems that may no longer be the case.
According to The Athletic, the Citizens are preparing a new deal for the Scandinavian striker after Pep Guardiola signed his three-year extension at the club late last year.
Haaland's current contract reportedly had a £150 million (R3 billion) release clause included in it that was linked to Guardiola's future but since the Spanish tactician re-signed with the eight-time Premier League champions, the stipulation has been removed, and the club now wants to reward the Leeds-born forward for his exploits in the 2022/23 campaign.
Since making the move to the Etihad Stadium from Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of the campaign, Haaland has been in phenomenal form, scoring 47 times in just 40 appearances and looking on course to break even more records before the season ends, with City still in the hunt for an historic treble-winning season.
The same report suggests that the Norway international is happy in Manchester, and is delighted by the number of promises the club has managed to keep from when they were courting him last year.

The player's father, Alf-Inge, has previously hinted that his son may not be in the Premier League for more than two seasons, but given how his debut campaign in England has gone so far, it seems the prolific marksman may be calling Manchester home for longer than initially anticipated.
