With Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard among the greatest English midfielders of all time, the former Liverpool captain has been picked ahead of his ex-Manchester United and Chelsea rivals by a certain Premier League star.
The debate as to who the best midfielder is between Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard is one of the oldest debates in football, particularly in England, where the three ex-professionals spent their best years.
Gerrard and Lampard were goalscoring midfielders who could play various roles for their respective clubs, while Scholes played a deep-midfield role in his prime and gained a reputation for being one of the best passers in the game.
West Ham United skipper Mark Noble, who went up against all three of them, is the latest to weigh in on the debate, with the 32-year-old naming Gerrard as his favourite.
"Trust me when I say you only realise how good a player is when you play against them," he said in a QA on West Ham's official Twitter account.
"All three were top, top players in their own right, but all-round player, Stevie G was the complete footballer."
Gerrard represented Liverpool on 710 occasions in his career, scoring 186 goals and assisting a further 115 strikes.
