This past season saw United finish with a Premier League points tally that would have delighted supporters when Sir Alex Ferguson in charge, but rivals Manchester City still won the title fairly easily.
Due to City's dominance, Mourinho is said to be set on luring more quality players to the Red Devils ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, having already signed young fullback Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Portuguese boss still wants to sign a new left-back to replace Luke Shaw, a centre-back and another attacking player.
It remains unclear as to who exactly Mourinho has in mind for these positions, but several top players have been linked with United in recent months.
The Red Devils have reportedly been monitoring Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, as well as Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane and winger Gareth Bale, while West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic has also been strongly linked.
