The Premier League has its first goalless draw of the season after Chelsea and Bournemouth shared the spoils on Sunday afternoon.

Premier League

Result: Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

Date: 17 September 2023

Venue: Vitality Stadium

Blues coach Mauricio Pochettino made two changes from the loss to Nottingham Forest, as Lesley Ugochukwu and Mykhailo Mudryk were handed their first starts, with Ben Chilwell dropping to the bench while Moises Caicedo missed out through injury.

Nicolas Jackson went close to giving the Blues the lead after 13 minutes after carving out some space on the edge of the box before seeing his low strike hit the upright.

The Cherries had a big chance just before the 20-minute mark when Ouattara was left unmarked at the far post from Christie's cross, but goalkeeper Robert Sanchez produced a superb save to deny the attacker.

The visitors were the better for most of the first half but were unable to find a way past Cherries goalkeeper Neto, who did pull off a couple vital saves in the final 15 minutes of the stanza.

Chelsea came out fired up for the second half and went agonisingly close to taking the lead five minutes in when Raheem Sterling rattled the woodwork with a powerful free-kick on the edge of the box.

Pochettino opted make his first change for the visitors just after the hour mark, as Mudryk made way for Cole Palmer while Bournemouth threw on new signing Luis Sinisterra and Marcos Senesi.

The Cherries almost broke the deadlock with ten minutes left on the clock when Dominic Solanke skipped past one challenge in the box before seeing his low strike turned way by Sanchez.

Neto came to the home side's rescue at the other end as he showed great reflexes to keep out Palmer's first-time volley at the near post after some good work by Sterling, which proved to be the final chance as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils.
