The German added another two assists to his tally when the Gunners beat Manchester City 2-1 in a top-of-the-table clash on Monday night.
He has now set up an incredible 101 goals for his teammates since 2008, one more than Messi.
Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas sits in third spot with 84 assists, while Cristiano Ronaldo (75) and Angel Di Maria (68) follow in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Ozil has already assisted 15 goals this season, and is only five short of Thierry Henry's Premier League record from the 2002/03 season.
The 27-year-old is part of the reason behind Arsenal's great form this campaign, and has 21 more games to break the Gunners legend's milestone.
Eric Cantona, with 17, and Frank Lampard and Cesc Fabregas, with 18, are Ozil's next victims on his record hunt.
He has also set up more goals than the entire Manchester United squad combined (12), as well as last season's champions Chelsea (11), according to Opta.
