A Manchester City star is now said to have entered talks with a rival Premier League club over a potential move this January.
According to reports, the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup champions are not expected to make any new signings in the current window but one player, in particular, has consistently been linked with a departure from the Etihad.
England midfielder Kalvin Phillips has endured a miserable time at the club from an individual perspective, as he has made a measly 31 appearances in all competitions since joining the club from Leeds United on a deal worth €49 million (R1 billion) in July 2022.

In December 2023, manager Pep Guardiola admitted that it would be best for the defensive midfielder to get more game time but it was unlikely he would get minutes at City.
Phillips himself is reportedly keen on a move, as he is said to be aiming for a spot in England's 2024 UEFA European Championship squad in June.
According to ESPN, the 28-year-old has now entered talks with West Ham United over a potential move this January.
The report claims that the Citizens are keen to receive a £7 million (R168 million) loan fee and include an obligation to make the deal permanent at the end of the season, although it could be reduced to just an option to buy.
The Manchester outfit are said to be willing to part ways with the player but also want the offers to reflect that he is an established England international.
West Ham aren't the only side who has been monitoring Phillips, as Juventus, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle United have also been linked with his signature.
Speaking on Phillips in December, Guardiola told Sky Sports: "I don't know what's going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I've said that many times.
"He doesn't deserve what has happened to him and I'm so sorry. The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example. And after that I have to give him something and I didn't do that.
"It's just because I visualise some things and visualise the team and things - and I struggle to see him."
The Spaniard added: "And I've said many times, if it comes to January and he stays, I'm more than pleased because he trains really good and he's a lovely guy and character."
