Rape-Accused Alves 'To Change Testimony' For 5th Time

Brazilian footballer Dani Alves is reportedly set to change his testimony for the fifth time in his next court appearance over rape charges.

It has been a full year since the right-back was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub back in December 2022.

The disgraced player has been remained in prison throughtout this period, as the court refused to grant him bail, deeming him as a flight risk.

Alves initially denied any wrongdoing, but later argued that he had concensual sex with the alleged victim. With his trial set for February 2024, the 40-year-old is said to have changed his version of events on almost a hanful of occasions and claimed to have never met the woman during one of his many testimonies.

However, yet another twist is to be expected, as newspaper Relevo are now reporting that Alves will make a fifth different testimony when he appears in court.

The publication claims that the FC Barcelona icon will testify that he was too intoxicated to know what he was doing at the time.

It is said that the implication of this new testimony is that he will open the door to a guilty conviction and his legal team would seek a reduced sentence.

The prosecution is believed to be pushing for a nine-year prison sentence, while the alleged victim wants the defender to be behind bars for 12 years.

Additionally, the woman is also seeking €150 000 (R3 million) in damages.

Furthermore, Alves' mother reportedly released images of the 23-year-old victim on social media, which is in breach of the law, and could spell more trouble for her son as a result.
