Man City 'Ready' To Sign Rodri Replacement

Man City 'Ready' To Sign Rodri Replacement

Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing a new holding midfielder to deputise for Rodri amid their bad run of form.

The Citizens are in the midst of a torrid run of results. The 2-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion this past weekend marked the first time Pep Guardiola had suffered four straight defeats in his 16-year managerial career.

It comes at a time when the Citizens are without their 2024 Ballon d'Or-winning star.

The 28-year-old suffered a season-ending knee injury against Arsenal earlier in the campaign, and while they managed to win six of their next seven matches, the Mancunians have now lost four straight games.

It seems that City are keen on remedying this by recruiting in the January transfer window, and the player believed to be a prime candidate to succeed the Madrid native is his compatriot Martin Zubimendi.

The San Sebastian native replaced the City playmaker during the 2024 UEFA European Championship final at half time, and his performances throughout the tournament, and for his club Real Sociedad, prompted Liverpool to try and sign him.

Zubimendi eventually ended up rejecting the Reds' advances as he opted to stay at the Reale Arena.

According to The Sun, now the Sky Blues want to sign him and have no issues paying his mooted £50.3 million (R1.1 billion) release clause.

The same report claims that the lifelong Sociedad player has now had a change of heart and is receptive to making the move to the Premier League.
