During the Citizens' 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League two weekends ago, the English champions suffered a massive loss when Rodri sustained a knee injury and was forced to go off the pitch.
Manager Pep Guardiola has since confirmed that the 2024 Ballon d'Or frontrunner will miss the remainder of the season.
In the final of the 2024 UEFA European Championship, the 29-year-old also suffered an injury. The Madrid native strained his hamstring and was substituted at half-time, and in that 2-1 victory over England, he was replaced by Martin Zubimendi.
Now, it seems the Premier League title holders are keen on adopting Spain boss Luis de la Fuente's approach because, according to Football Insider, City want to sign the San Sebastian native as they view him as the best possible replacement for one of their star players.
The 25-year-old has been a target for multiple English sides in recent years, the most recent being the Liverpool.
The Merseysiders were eager to sign Zubimendi in the off-season, but he is understood to have rejected their advances in favour of staying at the Reale Arena with his boyhood club, Real Sociedad.
