Liverpool, who are in the middle of a defensive crisis with both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez suffering long-term injuries, reportedly rejected the chance to sign one of the game's most in-demand centre-backs in the previous transfer window.
The Reds now have Joel Matip as their only senior centre-back, but according to Sports Mole, transfer expert Ian McGarry has claimed that Liverpool could have secured the services of Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly.
However, the Premier League champions were seemingly not interested in paying the €60 million (R1 billion) fee the Serie A side was said to have quoted for the player's services.
It is understood that Napoli were open to selling the African star, and both Liverpool and Manchester City were linked with the Senegal international.
