Guardiola 'Fires Shots' At Man Utd After Carabao Cup Success

Pep Guardiola has taken some subtle shots at Manchester United after their Carabao Cup victory.

With Manchester United ending their six-year trophy drought this past weekend, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has seemingly had a sly dig at his crosstown rivals after their Carabao Cup triumph.

On Sunday evening, the Red Devils defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at Wembley Stadium to secure their first piece of silverware since 2017.

The Mancunians are still in the running to win three other trophies, having recently progressed to the UEFA Europa League's round of 16, being in the fifth round of the FA Cup, and being just eight points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Guardiola has, however, now seemingly fired shots at his club's bitter rivals, suggesting that they will need to spend much more if they are to be triumphant in all the aforementioned competitions.

"Congratulations to United," the Spaniard said, as per the Metro.

"Sooner or later it should happen, shouldn't it? Welcome."

Asked if he considers United as challengers for more trophies, Guardiola replied cheekily: "If they spend a little more money, yes, because they didn't spend, isn't it?

"They're in the position they normally should be."

Despite the subtle dig at the club, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach also lauded Erik ten Hag for the work he has done at Old Trafford.

"I remember when we travelled to win our first Carabao Cup, everyone was so excited to do it," the 52-year-old added.

"For the staff it was new, for the players it was new. When we travelled there to win the Carabao Cup for the fourth time in a row, it was like, 'Well, it's OK, another one, another day in the office'.

"It's normal that United has to be there. When I landed here, I thought United would always be there, for the history, for everything, and Erik is doing an incredible job.

"And the players, you see how committed they are, how all together they try to do it."
