English Premier League
Result: Stoke City 2-0 Manchester City
Date: 05 December 2015
Venue: Brittania Stadium
Marko Arnautovic bagged a brace as Stoke City secured an impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Brittania Stadium.
Despite City's early dominance, Stoke went ahead after six minutes, as Xherdan Shaqiri did well to get to the byline, before whipping the ball into the box for Arnautovic to tap home from six-yards out.
City almost leveled matters a few moments later but Jack Butland got down well to keep out Kevin de Bruyne's low effort from 12-yards out.
It got better for the home side in the 15th minute, as Shaqiri turned Fernando brilliantly, before picking out Arnautovic, who calmly slotted past the on-rushing Joe Hart.
Mark Hughes' side gained a lot of momentum and nearly added a third goal in the 37th minute, as Arnautovic's header sailed agonisingly wide of the upright.
Arnautovic should have completed his hat-trick just before the halftime break, as he collected a pass from Shaqiri which played him through on goal, however he struck the upright with only Hart to beat.
Stoke continued to search for more goals and went close five minutes into the second half when Bojan was denied by Hart, before Arnautovic fired the rebound into the side-netting.
Manuel Pellegrini decided to change things after the hour-mark, as he introduced Fabian Delph and Kelechi Iheanacho in the hope of pulling a goal back.
Stoke were presented with a perfect chance to grab a third goal in the 68th minute but Shaqiri couldn't turn home Arnautovic's cross with the goal at his mercy.
City had to play the final 20 minutes with only 10 men, as Fernando picked up a knock and was forced off the pitch.
The visitors pushed for a goal in the closing stages but could not bypass a stubborn Stoke defence, as they slumped to a defeat.
Despite the loss, City remain on top of the Premier League, while the Potters move up to ninth.
