Defender, Marcos Alonso bagged a brace to help Chelsea claim a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in a thrilling encounter at Wembley Stadium.
Off-season signings, Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko were handed their first starts for the Premier League champions.
The Blues should have been ahead after four minutes, but Morata headed wide of the upright from six-yards out.
Chelsea eventually broke the deadlock after 24 minutes when Alonso curled home a sublime free-kick from 25-yards out.
Spurs continued to push for an equaliser and they went agonisingly close in the 41st minute when Harry Kane rattled the upright from 12-yards out.
With the hosts struggling to carve out the Chelsea defence, Mauricio Pochettino introduced Son Heung-Min for Eric Dier in the 67th minute.
Chelsea nearly doubled their lead in the 76th minute when Willian's low strike from 20-yards out rattled the upright.
Spurs eventually leveled matters when Chelsea striker, Michy Batshuayi headed Christian Eriksen's cross into his own net.
However, Chelsea restored their lead in the 87th minute as Alonso bagged his second by drilling home a low effort past Hugo Lloris, who should have done better.
Antonio Conte's charges managed to see out the closing stages of the second half to claim the three points.
