English Premier League
Result: Newcastle United 1-1 Liverpool
Date: 01 October 2017
Venue: St James' Park
Philippe Coutinho's first-half stunner could not help Liverpool secure victory, as they drew 1-1 with Newcastle United at St James' Park.
The Magpies did well in the opening minutes keeping the Reds inside their own half with Christian Atsu coming close to scoring.
However, Philippe Coutinho put Jurgen Klopp's charges ahead in the 29th minute with a typical stylish right footed curling shot from 25-yards out that found the top left corner, 0-1.
Joselu quickly levelled matters seven minutes later with bit of luck after an attempted clearance from Joel Matip came off his shin and into the back of the net, 1-1.
The Reds were impressive in the closing minutes of the first half moving the ball from one flank to another but the two teams went into the dressing room all square.
Mohammed Salah should have bagged the second goal for the visitors in the 50th minute but his attempted lob sailed over the bar inside the box with the Magpies goalkeeper Rob Elliott down and beaten.
Rafa Benitez's troops were absorbing the pressure after 65 minutes springing forward on counter-attacks.
The visitors could not create clear-cut goalscoring opportunities with the Magpies sitting deep after 75 minutes.
It seemed that Benitez's charges were going to be content with a draw as they committed few men forward in the closing stages.
Klopp's troops pressed for the winner but the hosts held on for the share of spoils.
