English Premier League

Result: Leicester City 0-1 Manchester United

Date: 03 February 2019

Venue: King Power Stadium

Manchester United boosted their top-four hopes with a narrow 1-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Jesse Lingard, Eric Bailly and Ander Herrera made a return to the line-up as the Red Devils were looking to bounce back from their 2-2 draw with Burnley.

The Red Devils got off to the perfect start when Marcus Rashford opened the scoring after just nine minutes. Paul Pogba clipped the ball into the English forward, who took a touch before slotting past Kasper Schmeichel.

The Foxes, meanwhile, slowly got back into the game as James Maddison had a bigger influence on the game but they never really threatened the United goal.

That proved to be the trend for the remainder of the half for both sides as they were both restricted to efforts from distance, none of which were threatening.

The Foxes came out a different side in the second half as Maddison and Harvey Barnes were denied by the side-netting and David de Gea respectively in the opening 10 minutes.

United, meanwhile, had to wait until the hour mark for their first chance of the half but Rashford was unable to steer his low drive on target from close range.

With 25 minutes to go, Claude Puel threw on Algeria international Rachid Ghezzal for Maddison, much to the displeasure of the home supporters.

As he has done so many times before, De Gea came to United's rescue on 77 minutes with a superb save to keep out the Ghezzal's curling free-kick.

Romelu Lukaku should have doubled the lead with three minutes remaining after being played through on goal, but the Belgian was unable to find a way past Schmeicel.

Nevertheless, 1-0 was how the score remained as the Red Devils remain unbeaten under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
