Result: Huddersfield Town 1-2 Arsenal
Date: 09 February 2019
Venue: John Smith's Stadium
Arsenal revived their top four hopes with a 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Huddersfield Town in the English Premier League on Saturday evening.
As anticipated, Arsenal made the first attack as Ainsley Maitland-Niles played in Alex Iwobi, who smashed against the side-netting after ten minutes.
The Nigerian atoned for his miss as his half-volley deflected off Terence Kongolo past Ben Hammer six minutes later to put the Gunners ahead.
With 39 minutes played, a driving run from the right by Maitland-Niles set-up a chance for Henrikh Mkhitharyan, but Ben Hamer smothered the close-range effort.
In the final minute of the half, Alexandre Lacazette found space in the penalty area to tap home Maitland-Niles' cross for a two-goal lead at the break.
The Terriers started the second period positively, as Juninho Bacuna attempted a wonder strike from range, but he ended up shooting straight at Bernd Leno.
Arsenal made their first substitution, as Mohamed El Neny replaced summer signing Lucas Torreira on 59 minutes. Three minutes was all it took for El Neny to get a feel on goal, as his shot from the edge of the area glanced went wide.
Huddersfield smacked the top of the crossbar after substitute Erik Durm's cross-cum shot deflected off a defender en-route to hitting the top of the net on 65 minutes.
In the final minutes, the Gunners threatened for a third goal after Mkhitharyan's through ball sent Iwobi one-on-one on goal, but Hamer expertly denied the Nigerian.
Sead Kolasinac unfortunately slotted the ball to his own net whilst trying to clear his lines to reduce the deficit for Huddersfield, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the Gunners held on for three points.
