English Premier League Report: Burnley v Manchester United 28 December 2019

Result: Burnley 0-2 Manchester United

Date: 28 December 2019

Venue: Turf Moor

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford continued their fine scoring form as Manchester United moved up to fifth with victory over Burnley on Saturday night.

Daniel James and Ashley Young returned to the United line up, as Mason Greenwood and Aaron Wan-Bissaka droppd to the bench while Paul Pogba was left out of the squad completely.

It was a lively affair at Turf Moor in the early stages as Marcus Rashford went close to scoring on two occasions in the opening 20 minutes, while James Tarkowski was denied by David de Gea at the other end.

United had another opening after 33 minutes when James' scuffed shot fell into the path of Anthony Martial, who saw his close-range effort cleared off the line by former United defender Phil Bardsley.

Martial was not to be denied ten minutes after as Andreas Pereira robbed possession off Taylor before playing in the Frenchman, who calmly slotted past Nick Pope for the opening goal.

After a quiet start to the half, Burnley went close to pulling themselves level in the 68th minute but De Gea produced a superb save to keep out Bardsley's volley.

Sean Dyche's men continued pushing for the equaliser as the second half, but they were nearly punished on the break when James slipped Martial through on goal, however the Frenchman hesitated as Burnely managed to clear.

However, United sealed the win in second-half stoppage time as James sent Rashford clear on goal and the England international rounded Pope before slotting into an empty net.
