Reports emerged earlier in the week that Salah was considering his international future after FIFA revealed that neither former coach Shawky Gharred nor captain Ahmed Elmohamady had registered votes for the Men's Player of the Year award.
Salah was one of the stronger candidates for the award after winning the UEFA Champions League title and Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool, and reportedly took offence that his countrymen had not bothered to vote for him.

This appears not to be the case, however, with both Gharred and Elmohamady insisting they registered their votes on time, and according to the BBC, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have now written to FIFA demanding answers.
The EFA claim that both Gharred and Elmohamady had Salah as their first choice for the award, and have voiced their concerns that their votes were not counted.
