Venue Change Or Postponed - Why Next Week's El Clasico Hangs By A Thread

Venue Change Or Postponed - Why Next Week's El Clasico Hangs By A Thread

Real Madrid line up at the Camp Nou

El Clasico is the biggest game in Spanish football, but next week's clash between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid could be postponed or moved from the Camp Nou to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The two LaLiga giants are gearing up for another spectacle, but the political situation in Spain has cast question marks on whether or not the game will go ahead.

LaLiga has requested for the game to be moved from Barca's home ground to Los Blancos' stadium after the sentencing of several Catalan political leaders led to increased protests across the Catalan region this week.

"It seems to us that, with the way things are going, we consider, along with LaLiga and the RFEF, that, for security reasons, it's not reasonable to play this match as it is scheduled," a Superior Minister of Sport source told Marca.

The Spanish publication has also reported that LaLiga, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and an independent adjudicator will decide on whether or not the game will go ahead, despite the security risks, moved to the Bernabeu or perhaps even be postponed.

Both clubs are said to be against the switch of venues, which makes it likely that the game could be rescheduled to December in the hope that the political unrest will have cleared up by then.

At this point in time, the match is scheduled to kick off at 13:00 on Saturday, 26 October, at the Camp Nou.
