Owen spent just one season at Los Blancos after his exit from Liverpool, scoring 17 goals in 45 matches for the Spanish giants.

Ahead of the exciting match this weekend, the 38-year-old selected a combined XI of Real and Barca stars, and surprisingly, he showed a slight favour towards his former rivals.

In goal, he chose ex-Real skipper Iker Casillas, while in front of the Spaniard he selected Sergio Ramos and retired Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos. Carles Puyol was the final ingredient to his three-man defence.

Zinedine Zidane was chosen in midfield, with the other three being the legendary Johan Cruyff, the skillful Andres Iniesta and former Denmark superstar Michael Laudrup, who is one of the few players to have represented both Barca and Real.

There were no surprises when Owen chose Lionel Messi, El Clasico's record scorer, on the right side of attack, with his countryman Diego Maradona picked on the left.

Soccer Laduma's Rossella Ricco-Marrai is attending this year's El Clasico thanks to La Liga's offices in Johannesburg. Follow her daily dairy in Fan Park and our social channels.

Owen chose Cristiano Ronaldo as his centre-forward, which again, did not catch anybody off guard.
