The 29-year-old, who was recovering from a hamstring injury, wanted to come on as a substitute during his country's second Copa America Centenario game against Venezuela when they were 1-0 down – and which they ultimately lost – but was denied the chance to play by manager Oscar Tabarez.
"I want to clarify many things that have been said and are untrue," Suarez said at a news conference, as quoted by ESPN.
"I am not even at 90% of what I can give.
"The anger comes from the helplessness of not being able to do anything and seeing that we were being eliminated.
"It has nothing to do with the coach or anything with the coaching staff."
The Uruguay striker also commented on reports suggesting that FC Barcelona did not want him to play at the Copa.
"Those were just rumours. Barcelona knew how serious my injury was, but they still gave me permission to come here knowing that I could play, so I have to thank them for that," he added.
