EFL Cup
Result: Swansea City 1-2 Manchester City
Date: 21 September 2016
Venue: Liberty Stadium
Manchester City progressed to the next round of the EFL Cup after recording a 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
Pep Guardiola made a number of changes to the line-up, as Vincent Kompany made his first start of the season while Leroy Sane made his first start since joining the club.
The home side looked more dangerous in the opening 20 minutes, while Man City looked to weather the storm and occasionally asked questions through the flanks.
Throughout the first-half Swansea looked the most likely to score but the half-time break came with the two sides still locked at 0-0.
Within four minutes into the second stanza Gael Clichy broke the deadlock for City. He was left unmarked at the edge of the box and cracked a shot that nicked off Neil Taylor before nestling into the back of the net, 1-0.
In the 67th minute Aleix Garcia made it 2-0. The 19-year old got his first goal for the senior side, arriving at the near post to steer Jesus Navas' cross into the back of the net.
City were toying with Swansea, holding onto the ball in the opposition half but in no hurry to apply the killer touch.
Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled one back for Swansea in stoppage time to make it 2-1, but it proved too late to save the game.
