Arsenal were dumped out of the EFL Cup, after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Gunners got caught early on as in the 12th minute they conceded a goal through Jordy Clasie, who hit a right footed that sailed into the top corner.
Arsenal were playing a good flowing game as Alex Iwobi nearly equalised in the 19th minute but the Nigerian's effort sailed just wide of the upright.
Southampton were content to let Arsenal have the ball and play on the counter.
Ryan Bertrand made it 0-2 to Southampton in the 30th minute courtesy of a clinical finish, with Sofiane Boufal picking up the assist.
Arsenal went into the half-time trailing to Southampton's two goals.
Five minutes into the second-half Bertrand nearly became the provider for the third goal but Shane Long's right footed shot from outside the box was saved by Emiliano Martínez.
Arsenal were being restricted to long range shots and shots from outside of the box as Southampton were defending with many players behind the ball.
Southampton were staying resolute in defence and they were still waiting to catch Arsenal on the break.
The Gunners continued to push for a goal in the closing stages, but were unable to bypass the Southampton defence, as they were bundled out of the cup.
