Manchester City sealed a spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory over Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
The defending champions handed a first team debut for Tommy Doyle, whilst Sergio Aguero made his 350th appearance across all competitions for the club.
The Citizens went ahead in the first 20 minutes when in pure trademark fashion, Nicolas Otamendi leaped ahead of the defence to nod home a cross from Bernardo Silva.
Southampton battled to stage a come back, as the share of possession and all round play remained firmly with the champions.
The visitors fell further behind when Aguero marked his record breaking appearance with first-time finish from an inch-perfect cross by Kyle Walker on 38 minutes.
Riyad Mahrez came close to tripling their advantage four minutes after unleashing a powerful strike from the centre of the area, but Alex McCarthy pulled clear.
No side made changes from the bench as the second half resumed, with City continuing their mesmerizing act of football.
The Citizens had a third of the evening on 56 minutes as Aguero poked the ball beyond after getting on the end Mahrez's neat lobbed pass.
Claudio Bravo was brought into action for the very first time as the Chilean denied Sofiane Boufal with an excellent tip away from goal a minute later.
The Saints reduced the tally in the final 15 minutes when Jack Stephens towered home from a James Ward-Prowse corner.
That though wasn't enough for a miraculous comeback as the Citizens marched into the quarter-finals on-course to retain their title.
