Capital One Cup

Round of 16

Full Time: Sheffiedl Wednesday 3-0 Arsenal

Date: 27 October 2015

Venue: Hillsborough stadium

Sheffield Wednesday upset English Premier League giants Arsenal with a 3-0 win in a round of 16 Capital One Cup tie at Hillsborough stadium on Tuesday night.

The home side never looked in danger of conceding a goal and controlled the match from the onset.

It took 28 minutes before Sheffield found the opening goal with Ross Wallace firing the ball into the bottom corner of the net from just inside the box, 1-0.

Five minutes later Wallace nearly doubled his side's lead, but saw his 24-yard free-kick shave the wrong side of the post.

In the 37th minute Nigerian Alex Iwobi nearly drew level for Arsenal when his shot from the edge of the box struck the side-netting, but that was as close as the Gunners got.

Three minutes later Wallace turned provider as he saw his left-wing cross powerfully headed home by Lucas João to give Sheffield a 2-0 lead at the break.

Six minutes into the second half the home side put the result beyond doubt when a free-kick into the box by Barry Bannan was worked back across the box by Tom Lees for Sam Hutchinson to tap home 3-0.

Both Sheffield and Arsenal took their foot off the pedal after that as the game was done in terms of a result.

Consequently, chances on goal were few and far in-between as Sheffield cruised to a historic win.
