On 7 October, Hamas fighters attacked and killed more than 1 500 Israelis in what has been reported as the deadliest Palestine militant attack in Israel's history.
The Israelis have retaliated with devastating effect, and are now believed to have killed around 3 000 Palestinians using airstrikes.
The events in the Middle East have caused much concern across the world, with many letting their feelings on the matter known.
Netherlands attacker Anwar El Ghazi is one those who expressed himself regarding the conflict, but his comments have not gone down well with his club in Germany, Mainz.
The Bundesliga outfit consequently released a statement announcing the winger's suspension, deeming his now-deleted post as "unacceptable".
"FSV Mainz 05 have relieved Anwar El Ghazi of his training and matchday-related duties," the club said via its official Twitter account.
"The decision comes as a result of a since-deleted social media post from the 28-year-old that appeared on Sunday evening.
"In the post, El Ghazi took a position on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East that was deemed unacceptable by the club.
"Prior to making this decision, the club and the player had engaged in an in-depth discussion. Mainz 05 respect the fact that there are varying perspectives on the decades-long, complex conflict in the Middle East.
