Bundesliga Wrap: RB Leipzig & Augsburg Run Riot

Bundesliga Wrap: RB Leipzig & Augsburg Run Riot

Timo Werner bagged a hat-trick as RB Leipzig reclaimed third spot in the Bundesliga with a 5-0 thrashing of Mainz on Sunday afternoon.

Leipzig were eager to get back to winning ways after last weekend's 1-1 draw with Freiburg, and they were boosted by the return of highly-rated defender Dayot Upamecano.

After firing blanks last weekend, Werner managed to open the scoring in the 11th minute with his 22nd league goal of the season by firing past Florian Muller from a tight angle.

The lead was doubled just over 10 minutes later as Yussuf Poulsen turned home Marcel Sabitzer's cross to mark his 250th Leipzig appearance with a goal.

Leipzig capped off a dominant first-half display by bagging a third goal after 36 minutes, with Poulsen returning the favour by setting Sabitzer for his ninth league goal.

The visitors picked up from where they left off in the first half as Werner bagged his second and Leipzig's fourth three minutes into the second stanza.

It was Werner's day as the Germany international completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes to round off an emphatic victory for the visitors.

Koln staged a late comeback to rally back from two goals down to secure 2-2 against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The visitors broke the deadlock four minutes before the break, with Kenan Karaman bagging his fourth league goal of the season before Erik Thommy made it 2-0 in the 61st minute.

Anthony Modeste got Koln back in the contest after pulling a goal back in the 88th minute, while Jhon Cordoba secured the equaliser three minutes later.

Schalke remain without a Bundesliga win in 2020 following a 3-0 loss to Augsburg on Sunday aftenoon.

Eduard Löwen, Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee and Segio Cordova were on target for the visitors, who are now seven points above the drop zone.
