Result: Freiburg 2-1 Borussia Dortmund
Date: 06 February 2021
Venue: Schwarzwald-Stadion
Borussia Dortmund's inconsistent Bundesliga campaign continued after suffering a 2-1 loss at Freiburg on Saturday.
Dortmund entered the clash on the back of a thrilling cup win over Paderborn that went to extra-time, although the likes of Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho, Thomas Delaney and Julian Brandt were kept in the line-up.
The visitors looked lively early on, with Woo-Yeong Jeong forcing Dortmund shot-stopper Marwin Hitz into a fine save inside the opening 10 minutes.
Freiburg squandered another opening in the 27th minute when Baptiste Santamria did well to pick out Vincenzo Grifo, who could only steer his strike over the crossbar.
Dortmund, meanwhile, had a couple chances of their own in the first half, with Manuel Akanji going closest with an effort from distance that sailed just wide of the mark.
The home side took the imitative in the second half and went ahead on 49 minutes when Woo-Yeong found the back of the net with a strike from distance.
The lead was doubled four minutes later with another strike from range, this time Jonathan Schmid beating Hitz from a tight angle for his first league goal of the season.
Dortmund responded with a double change for the final 30 minutes as Youssoufa Moukoko and Mahmoud Dahoud replaced Marco Reus and Delaney.
Moukoko made his impact know after pulling a goal back for Dortmund on 76 minutes with a neat finish after being set up by Haaland.
However, the youngster's strike proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Freiburg held on for three points, as Dortmund remain outside the top four.
