Bayern Munich returned to the top of the Bundesliga table after FC Cologne 4-0 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon. Bayern made only two changes from their midweek success over Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League, after restoring Serge Gnabry and Jerome Boateng to the eleven. The Bavarians went ahead after three minutes when Sebastiaan Bornauw helped Robert Lewandowski's low shot into his the net from a Joshua Kimmich through ball. Phillipe Coutinho nearly doubled their advantage14 minutes on the clock with a sweetly taken free-kick, which bounced back off the post. Bayern threatened a second in the final minutes of the half, but neither Ivan Perisic nor Robert Lewandowski made the initiative telling despite the dominance from the home side. However, Lewandowski redeemed himself two minutes from halftime as he leaped high ffrom a corner to head past Koln shot-stopper Timo Horn. Niko Kovac made the game's first change in the 59th minute, as Javier Martinez replaced Boateng at the heart of the defence. At the same time, Cologne were reduced to ten man after Kingsley Ehizibue brought down Coutinho in the area, resulting in a penalty which the latter tucked away. Bayern cracked the post for the second time after Coutinho picked out Kimmich, who fired strongly against the far post from outside the area three minutes later. Ivan Perisic joined the party with Bayern's fourth goal in the 73rd minute after bringing down Coutinho's pass to fire into the bottom right corner. Cologne pushed for a consolation in the final minute of the match, but were met with a resilient Neuer who pushed for a clean sheet to see Bayern top of the table.
