Result: Bayern Munich 1-0 Hertha Berlin
Date: 23 February 2019
Venue: Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich moved level on points with Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund after defeating Hertha Berlin 1-0 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Bayern coach Niko Kovac opted to drop Mats Hummels and Thiago as Jerome Boateng and Loen Goretzka were drafted into the line-up.
The visitors had the ball in the back of the net after 10 minutes when Davie Selke rounded Manuel Neuer to slot home, however the striker's effort was ruled out for offside.
Bayern dictated play for most of the half, but they had to wait until the 33rd minute for a chance when Franck Ribery forced Rune Jarstein into a fine save from close range.
Other than the disallowed goal, Hertha failed to mount any serious openings at Neuer's goal in the remaining stages of the first half.
The second half continued in similar fashion to the first, although Bayern broke the deadlock in the 64th minute through Javi Martinez, who turned home a cross from James Rodriguez.
The Bavarians pushed for more goals as the half went on but the chances surprisingly dried up, despite seeing most of the possession.
Any hopes of Hertha comeback were dashed with four minutes remaining when Rekick was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Robert Lewandowski.
In the end, 1-0 was how the encounter ended as Kovac's troops move level on points with Dortmund, who face Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
