A Borussia Dortmund legend believes Erling Haaland is a great striker but is not world class yet, and feels Kylian Mbappe has greater potential.
The Norwegian has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2020 for a fee believed to be €45 million (R787 million).
The 21-year-old has notched up 57 goals in 59 appearances for Dortmund over the past year, and helped the club clinch the DFB-Pokal title last season.
However, Jurgen Kohler, who won the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League with Dortmund, feels the 2020 Golden Boy winner is still missing something from his game.
"He's missing that certain extra class out of nowhere. At 21 he has already come so far. That is extraordinary. I am sure that he will always find tools so that he cannot be stopped. With experience comes world class.
"Kylian Mbappe has the greatest potential. I see him more as a world-class footballer, because he doesn't just rely on speed. What does he do? Short hooks, short ball control – Mbappe doesn't do anything rash."
