Update In FIFA The Best Vote-Rigging Storm Over Lionel Messi Win

Amid claims that some of the votes for FIFA's The Best Men's Player award, which was handed out to Lionel Messi on Monday, were rigged, there have now been updates on the various issues.

Click through the mini-gallery above to see which officials and players have questioned their votes for FIFA' The Best award.

Nicaragua captain Juan Barrera had come out after the final voting breakdown was published and insisted he did not vote for Messi – or any player for that matter as he did not take part in the voting this year.

FIFA subsequently investigated the claims and insisted there was no issues on their side.

"We have checked the voting documents submitted by the Nicaraguan FA and all these documents are signed and confirmed with the official stamp of the Nicaraguan FA," said a spokesperson, as quoted by DailyMail.

"Having compared with the vote sheets submitted by the FAs and the ones we have published we confirm that we have the right votes signed by the player/coach.

"We are asking the Nicaraguan FA to inquire on this matter."

On Thursday, the Nicaraguan FA then released a statement, explaining the hiccup was on their side.

The did confirm that Barrera – as he had claimed – did not vote, but admitted they mistakenly used his name and signature that was on file from a year ago.

The statement further explained that the player who actually voted was Manuel Rosas, who has recently been appointed as the new captain. The Nicaragua FA also claim they have since fired the official, who was at fault for the mistake.

There was another claim made by Sudan boss Zdravko Logarusic, who said he voted for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Kylian Mbappe, while FIFA registered his votes for Messi, Virgil van Dijk and Mane.

However, there have since been question marks over the authenticity of the image of Logarusic's voting slip, which was released on social media.
