With the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric among the favourites to win the 2018 Ballon d'Or, another star has now claimed he has done all he can to win the accolade.
Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane won both the UEFA Champions League and 2018 FIFA World Cup this past year, and has been tipped by a few high-profile names to win the award.
The 25-year-old recognises there are a few nominees who could potentially beat him to the Ballon d'Or, but insisted he has done his part in putting himself up for contention.
"It has been a golden year," he said in an interview with France Football.
"The authentic part is what happens on the pitch. If I put myself in the shoes of those who vote then it doesn't seem easy.
"There are many extraordinary players who have had a magnificent season. I have done everything I can.
"I am already flattered that people speak about me and recognise the work, the player and the man."
