The Spanish giants decided to not to attend the event, even though four of their stars were named in the 2016 World Team of the Year, namely Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

In a video sent to FIFA by Iniesta, the Blaugrana captain explained why the players decided not to go to the awards gala.

"We have a hugely important game against Athletic (on Wednesday) and so we couldn't be there.
