Lewandowski Makes Fresh Ballon d'Or Claim

Lewandowski Makes Fresh Ballon d'Or Claim

Robert Lewandowski

Having missed out on winning the Ballon d'Or in recent years, it seems Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski thinks his best chance of winning the award is with the Catalan giants.

Bruno Causes Stir With Pepe Remarks

The Poland hitman sealed his dream move to the Camp Nou in the off-season at a transfer fee of €45 million (R786 million) after calling time on his eight-year stay at Bayern Munich.

Since arriving in LaLiga, Lewandowski has hit the ground running, having found the back of the net 11 times in the eight matches across all competitions he has played for the Blaugrana.

He has also scored in his past five league matches, and went into this international break as the Spanish top flight's top goalscorer, two ahead of his closest competitor, Real Betis' Borja Iglesias.

Having started the 2022/23 campaign as one of Europe's most prolific marksmen, his chances of finally claiming the Ballon d'Or, the latest winner of which will be announced in a ceremony on 17 October, has come up in many a football conversation.

Lewandowski was expected to be the recipient of the accolade two years ago, but the award was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic at the time. Despite this, though, he appears to now believe his chances of winning it are greater than ever before.

"I know that Barcelona is the team where the most players have won it," he said, as per Marca.

"I think the path is shorter from Barca than from Bayern."

Lewandowski has been breaking records ever since he arrived in Catalonia. No player in the history of the five-time European champions has been more clinical in front of goal than the Warsaw native has in their first eight games with the team.

Ex-Barca Star: Xavi Didn't Believe In Me

His eight league goals beat the previous record set by Brazil legend Romario (six strikes).

The ex-Borussia Dortmund man is already feeling the love from the team's supporters too.

"I didn't expect the Barca fans to start singing for me at the Camp Nou . It makes me feel like I've been at Barcelona for a long time," he added.
