Football's governing body once again collaborated with the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) to get about 23 000 professional players worldwide to vote for their peers.
Each of the footballers selected their personal World XI, with the most chosen players per position making the final overall dream team.
After the announcement of the official World XI on Monday, Soccer Laduma reached out to FIFPro to get an update on how players from the continent voted.
The response was somewhat surprising as 4 015 votes from players from African countries were collected, but Salah still did not make the team.

However, his teammate Sadio Mane was one of the four changes compared to the official team. In addition, N'Golo Kante, Sergio Busquets and Trent Alexander-Arnold also made the African version of the World XI.
Similar to the main XI, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were also included, and they have now made the official team for a record-breaking 13th time.
They are followed by Sergio Ramos, who made the World XI for a ninth edition, while Marcelo appeared in his sixth and Luka Modric in his fifth. All three Real Madrid stars remained in the African version of the World XI, despite Los Blancos' below-par 2018/19 campaign.
