Ferreira put an end to the White Castle's desperate search for a new coach following Jose Peseiro's sacking toward the end of the 2024/25 season.
The 44-year-old boasts a wealth of experience in his 12-year managerial career and has experience with Arab football, having previously managed Al-Fateh and Al-Riyadh in the Saudi Pro League, according to Transfermarkt.
The Belgian national is set to take over as Zamalek boss ahead of the 2025/26 season and will make his first foray into Egyptian football. Ferreira admitted he nearly become the head coach of the Egypt U23 side in 2022, Masrawy reported.
"I’m completely open to working in Egypt," he said at the time. "I left Al-Fateh because the results weren’t good, and my departure was expected, especially with the abundance of available coaches," he added.
He was also previously linked with a move to Zamalek's eternal rivals Al Ahly and said he paid extra attention to the Egyptian League at that time.
He mentioned that South Africa's Percy Tau, an Al Ahly player at the time, stood out to him from his time in Belgium.
"I followed the Egyptian Premier League more closely after my name was linked with Al Ahly," Ferreira said. "I watched many of the team’s matches, but there were no negotiations."

He concluded: "They have good players. I know Percy Tau, as he previously played in Belgium. There are other players too, but I can’t recall their names."
