African Club Boss Makes Big Sundowns CAF CL Prediction

A major African football club's president has made a bold prediction about Mamelodi Sundowns' CAF Champions League campaign.

The president of a major African club has made a massive prediction about how far Mamelodi Sundowns will get in the CAF Champions League (CAF CL) this season.

In last season's iteration of the competition, Masandawana went out in agonising fashion as a late own goal from Mothobi Mvala condemned the DStv Premiership champions to a semi-final defeat to Wydad Athletic Club.

Favourites to win the tournament for much of last season's edition, especially after a resounding 5-2 defeat of Al Ahly at Loftus Versfeld, the Tshwane-based side are again being touted as one of the frontrunners to hold the trophy aloft in the 2023/24 season.

The most recent person to place the favourites tag on Rulani Mokwena's side for this season's continental cup prize is Young Africans president Hersi Said, who claimed they are going to be likely participants in the final with another giant of African club football.

"I nominate Al Ahly and Sundowns as the clubs to reach the CAF Champions League final this season," he told Al Ahly Satellite Channel.

Young Africans, or Yanga as they are affectionately known, will be taking on the Club of the Century in their final group match on Friday evening.

While Said has predicted that Ahly will once again go far in the CAF CL, he also insisted that his team will be looking to defeat Marcel Koller's side and claim top spot in Group D.

"I saw Al Ahly different when they played against us in Dar es Salaam, as they appeared strong, and we will also show them that we will perform strongly," he added.

"We are looking for first place and Al Ahly [are] as well. Therefore, we want to be equal with Al Ahly. It will be a match without pressure on the players or the technical staff. It will be a football match and everyone will enjoy this match."
