Wydad Athletic Club president Hicham Ait Menna has revealed why Rulani Mokwena was chosen to become the club's latest head coach.

On Thursday afternoon, the record Botola Pro Inwi champions confirmed the appointment of the Soweto native as their new head coach after he put pen to paper on a contract until 2027.
Mokwena recently departed DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, and almost immediately began being linked with a host of north African teams.
The Red Castle themselves were looking for a new manager after having gone through four of them in the 2023/24 season, and were linked with the likes of Alexandre Santos, Jose Peseiro and Nabil Maaloul.
However, once Mokwena became available, it seemed they abandoned all their other pursuits in favour of landing the 37-year-old's signature, and Wydad's president has since revealed why he was insistent on hiring the South African tactician.
"We finally settled on Mokwena because he is the man of the moment," the 53-year-old Moroccan executive said, as per Kooora.
"We quickly agreed with Mokwena, he has the required passion, and knows Morocco and the Wydad environment well.

"I am very optimistic about the coach's success with the team, and I hope we can provide him with the right environment to work in. I promise the fans to do my utmost so that Wydad returns strong."
