The former Orlando Pirates boss has had a slow start to his Al Ahly campaign since taking over toward the end of last season.
He picked up his first win as Red Devils boss after a convincing 4-1 win over Pharco in his second league game in charge, following a first-round draw and winless FIFA Club World Cup campaign.
According to One3 News, Shehata admitted Al Ahly have not started well, but there are improvements, saying Riveiro has not yet imposed himself on the team.
"Al Ahly’s start to the league was not good, but the performance improved in the second round against Pharco," Shehata said.
He added, "The best thing about Al Ahly’s players at the moment is their individual performances. Al Ahly has not yet reached full cohesion, and I have not seen any clear tactical fingerprints from José Riveiro with the team."
The 44-year-old revealed that he is a fan of the Red Giant and called for the club to give the Vigo native time to settle in Egypt.
"My comments on Al Ahly’s performance in the league are from the perspective of a fan of the club, not as a coach," he said.

"But José Riveiro needs some time for the team’s collective performance to improve, and I trust in his ability to achieve that," he concluded.
