Fans will have to wait to see Rulani Mokwena and Sead Ramovic renew their rivalry on the opening matchday of the Algerian topflight, as MC Algers’ clash with CR Belouizdad has been postponed.

When the South African tactician was unveiled as El Mouloudia’s new head coach, one of the major storylines was not only his continuation of a North African adventure but also the prospect of reigniting his rivalry with Ramovic in Algeria.
Mokwena and the German coach had heated encounters both in the media and on the touchline during the former’s final campaign at Mamelodi Sundowns. After the 2023/24 season, however, the Johannesburg native left Chloorkop for Wydad Athletic Club, while Ramovic departed TS Galaxy early in the 2024/25 season to join Young Africans SC before eventually taking charge of CRB.
To kick off the new Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 season, the fixture list had served up a blockbuster encounter between the two rivals. However, supporters will have to wait a little longer, after the league confirmed that the match has been postponed.
The postponement comes as a result of both clubs being without at least three key players, who are currently representing Algeria at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) hosted across Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.

MCA and CRB are not the only sides affected, with Josef Zinnbauer’s JS Kabylie also seeing their opening fixture — against USM Algers — rescheduled for the same reason.
