Nigeria Target Win Against ‘Little Rivals’ Amajita

Nigeria U20 coach Aliyu Zubairu is ready for the challenge that awaits his side against South Africa in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Flying Eagles and Amajita secured their spot in the semi-finals after wins against Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) respectively to set up a mouth-watering clash on Thursday evening.

The two sides boast a strong rivalry stemming down from their senior sides and head coach Zubairu promised that his team will be determined and composed against South Africa, Pulse Sports Nigeria reported.   

"I believe we are going to have a great semi-final against the South Africans. I can guarantee that our approach will be much better,"  Zubairu said.

After qualifying for the semi-finals, both sides booked their ticket to the U20 FIFA World Cup and Zubairu said it would serve as motivation to make the final. 

"We have the World Cup ticket now and are quite happy. Against South Africa, we will play with great determination and composure, as we aim for the trophy,” the Nigerian added. 

Dubbing Amajita their "little rivals", Zubairu said vowed his team would be ready for an all-out battle against South Africa.

"The team has improved, and is actually getting better with each match," he said.

"We will go all out against the South Africans."
