This international break could prove decisive for the Super Eagles as they look to revive their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
So far, the three-time African champions have managed just one win in their qualification campaign. They now face the top two sides in Group C — Rwanda and South Africa — with the West African giants needing maximum points from both fixtures to keep their faint hopes of reaching the global spectacle alive.
The clash with Nigeria’s long-time rivals Bafana Bafana will take place in Bloemfontein and is expected to be the tougher of the two encounters. However, Beşiktaş and Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi insists their immediate priority is securing victory against the Wasps before turning attention to Hugo Broos’ men.
“We are not looking at the game against South Africa yet, because the game against Rwanda is the most important one in our hands right now, and we can't let it slip,” Ndidi told Pooja, as per Soccernet Nigeria.

“If we let it slip, it's finished. If we let the Rwanda game slip, there's nothing like rivalry in South Africa. We have to win the game against Rwanda first, then we focus on the game against South Africa.”
