Nigeria Match Awful 64yo Record Vs Bafana

Nigeria matched an unwanted 64-year-old FIFA World Cup qualification record against Bafana Bafana this past weekend.

Following their latest draw against Bafana Bafana in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification, Nigeria have matched an unwanted 64-year-old record in World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles have, so far, not had the best of qualifying campaigns for the global spectacle in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico in 2026.

Despite being undefeated up to this point, the Super Eagles currently sit second from bottom in Group C as they have registered three draws in three games on their journey to the biggest World Cup yet.

Their latest stalemate came against South Africa on Friday, when Finidi George and his charges came from behind courtesy of a Fisayo Dele-Bashiru strike to salvage a 1-1 draw against their bitter rivals after Bafana took the lead through Themba Zwane.

It was their third draw of this iteration of FIFA World Cup qualifiers, making it six draws in a row overall after ties against Cape Verde and Ghana (twice) in their previous qualification campaign.

In this iteration of qualifiers, they have already drawn against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, and according to Soccernet Nigeria, this is the first time the west African giants have had this happen to them in World Cup qualification since 1960.

Nigeria's last win during qualification came in 2021, when they beat Liberia 2-0.

On that occasion, they were coached by Gernot Rohr, and they will now have the opportunity to get their first win since then against their former head coach.
