NEW: Many Rise In Africa's Top 10 In FIFA Rankings

The latest FIFA rankings have been released, with many of the nations in the CAF region's top 10 moving up the rankings.

With the latest phase of FIFA World Cup qualifiers recently concluded, world football's governing body has updated its ranking list, and many of the elite nations on the African continent have made major leaps.

Morocco maintains their spot as the highest-ranked African nation and has moved up two places in the world, now sitting in 12th position globally.

The Atlas Lions are the only country on the continent to have a 100 percent record in World Cup qualification, continuing a trend from their Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign, where they also won all their matches.

Right behind the North African giants is Senegal. While they remain the second-highest-ranked African side, they are one of three teams within CAF's top 10—alongside fellow West Africans Cameroon and Mali—that have dropped in the overall rankings, now sitting at 19th in the world.

While they completed their AFCON qualifiers without suffering defeat, their aspirations to make the World Cup hang in the balance, given that they have drawn three and won three of their six qualifiers thus far. This has paved the way for the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan to possibly clinch the automatic qualification spot.

The biggest risers within the African top 10, however, have been the reigning AFCON champions, Ivory Coast. The Elephants have gone up five places, even usurping Nigeria, and are now fifth in Africa and 41st in the world.

Below is a full list of the top 10 African sides and where they rank in the FIFA world rankings:

  1. Morocco (12)
  2. Senegal (19)
  3. Egypt (32)
  4. Algeria (36)
  5. Ivory Coast (41)
  6. Nigeria (43)
  7. Tunisia (49)
  8. Cameroon (50)
  9. Mali (53)
  10. South Africa (56)
