The Harambee Stars topped Group A with three wins and a draw from their four group games to advance to the quarter-finals, where McCarthy's team will face Madagascar at home.
According to Pan-Africa Football, the ex-Cape Town City expressed his joy with his players and the way they carried themselves in the tournament, but urged them not to lose focus as they enter the knockout stages.
"I am very happy that the boys have delivered and picked three wins and one draw in the group stage," the 48-year-old said.
"This has been as a result of hard work and we must remain focused ahead of the quarter final stage,” he added.
Bafana's record goalscorer also praised Zambia's efforts, despite the Chipolopolo's winless competition.
"Zambia was stubborn today; they defended and played very well," he said. "But, at the end of the day, when we moved the ball the way that we did, and created the chance for Ryan (Ogam), we scored one goal, yet we would have liked them to be more."

He concluded: “At the end of the day, I am happy with the win because we get to play our next match in the quarter finals, and we stay in Kenya, and that is all that is important."
