With Marcus Rashford rumoured to be unlikely to stay at Manchester United once he returns to the club, the Englishman’s preferred transfer destination has reportedly been revealed.

According to The Express, the forward wants to sign with Aston Villa following his relatively successful loan spell with the West Midlands club. During the mid-season window, it was alleged that the 27-year-old wanted to sign for Barcelona, but with Villa ultimately winning the race to acquire his talents for the rest of the 2024/25 campaign, it seems that working under Unai Emery has swayed him towards wanting to stay at Villa Park.
The two-time European champions have a £40 million (R968 million) option to sign the England international, but whether they will be able to trigger it will likely depend on which European competition they end up qualifying for next season.
Emery’s side face Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in their final two league matches of the season — the two sides in the English top flight with the worst form over the last five games, and as they are currently in sixth, they will be fancying their chances of making it into the UEFA Champions League again.

One sticking point regarding Rashford, however, is his mooted £350 000-per-week (R8.4 million) wages. That would make him Villa’s highest-paid player, and the same report claims that he has sought out the services of agent Pini Zahavi in an attempt to potentially secure a move to the Blaugrana — a club the Israeli agent has close ties to, should a preferred move to Villa fall through.
