Rulani-Mailula Reunion Edging 'Closer'

Rulani-Mailula Reunion Edging 'Closer'

MC Algers are reportedly close to bringing Cassius Mailula to the club.

A reunion between Rulani Mokwena and Cassius Mailula is reportedly edging closer, with MC Alger believed to be advancing in their negotiations for the South African forward.

According to Foot Algeriedz, MCA are on the verge of reaching an agreement with the Ga Molepo native to bring him to the Algerian capital to reunite with his former coach once again.

Links to the player have been circulating for several weeks now, but it appears negotiations have reached an advanced stage. The same report claims that the 38-year-old tactician has insisted on bringing in the two-cap international.

There’s reason for both to advocate working alongside each other again. Mailula has played under Mokwena more than any other coach in his professional career, playing 56 games for him.

The pair first worked together during the 2022/23 season at Mamelodi Sundowns, where the young attacker enjoyed a breakout campaign with Ka Bo Yellow. He scored 15 goals and provided four assists in all competitions for the Betway Premiership juggernauts.

His performances that season paved the way for a high-profile move to Major League Soccer, joining Canadian side Toronto FC. However, he did not enjoy the same prominence in North America, spending much of his first season on the bench.

Last season, though, Mokwena came to his rescue. Upon the Johannesburg native’s arrival at Wydad Athletic Club, one of his first signings was the pacey attacker—brought in on loan.

Now that both men are no longer part of the Red Castle’s project, the desire to reunite is seemingly mutual. A deal is reportedly being orchestrated to finalise the reunion.
