On Thursday, FIFA updated its national team ranking, with 2022 FIFA World Cup winners Argentina still in first place following the recent international break and Morocco unmoved as the Africa's strongest international team.
South Africa, meanwhile, remain 10th on the continent, but dropped to 59th in the overall standing. Who, however, are the African national teams lingering at the bottom of the rankings?
As per FIFA's website, southern African side Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, are 148th overall, but place 44th out of the 53 nations in this discussion (Eritrea are currently unranked).
Following them is Lesotho, who fell to 149th position in the ranking and 45th in Africa. Liberia come in at 46th place, with South Sudan in at 47th and Chad in at 48th spot.
Mauritius and Sao Tome and Principe follow in 49th and 50th place, respectively, while Djibouti, whose last victory was a 6-0 win over Pakistan in 2023, are the 51st-ranked national team.
Seychelles, who were beaten 9-0 by eventual 2023 Africa Cup of Nations winners Ivory Coast in November last year, come in at 52nd, with Somalia the lowest-ranked of all FIFA teams on the continent.
